G & B Dobson Ltd
Our farming enterprise goes under the name of G & B Dobson Ltd and is run by Charles Dobson. Amy Jobe, his daughter, is the Farms qualified Agronomist and FACTS advisor who looks after the arable crops.
The farm is situated in the Lincolnshire Wolds around the villages of North and South Elkington and Welton Le Wold, covering a total area of approximately 950ha of arable and 290ha of permanent grass. The permanent grass comprises Park Land, steep hillsides and 3 deserted medieval villages. We also have 85ha of mixed woodland, much of which has been harvested and replanted over the past 50 years. A range of combinable crops are grown including wheat, barley, oilseed rape and beans for both human and animal consumption. In addition to the cropping we also have an established single suckler beef herd of approximately 260 cows into which around 40 heifers are introduced each year. All our livestock and crops are fully assured under the relevant Farm Assured Schemes.
In addition to the commercial crops and livestock we also have a strong focus on the natural environment with a number of schemes in place to enhance the biodiversity and local habitats on the farm. We are currently enrolled in both the Entry Level Stewardship scheme as well as the more demanding Higher Stewardship Level Scheme which promotes good environmental practises and wildlife habitats in our farming operations.
